Cathedral
of Noto
Built for eternity,
returned to history.
It is faith
in the excess of beauty.
Faith, stone and beauty.
From the earthquake to a new idea of beauty
After the earthquake of 1693, Noto chose not simply to rebuild, but to reinvent itself. The Cathedral became the spiritual and architectural heart of this new city, shaped by golden limestone, light and an extraordinary Baroque vision.
Rebirth.
Light.
A city rebuilt as a work of art.

Saint Conrad Confalonieri
A knight from Piacenza who became a penitent and hermit, Conrad lived in a cave in the Pizzoni valley until 1351. Tradition remembers the bread he gave during the famine and the healings obtained through his prayer.
His body rests in the Cathedral, in the silver Ark that Noto carries in procession in February and August.
